A wonderful day was had by all at the 4th GRO workshop on Sunday 29th September. As usual we were hosted by William Westley School (thanks to the headteacher and Gina for arranging this), and were conducted by the marvellous Steve Bingham. Repertoire included Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King, Dvorak's New World Symphony, FInlandia by Sibelius and Haydn's trumpet concert, with no trumpets in sight!

We had an orchestra of violins, cellos, flutes, clarinets, oboe, bassoons, trombone and tuba, and Derek on the piano to help keep us all together. It was the first time playing in an ensemble for two of the adults and they coped admirably! We were even ready a little early for our informal concert, so Steve treated us to a performance of a beautiful arrangement of Sakura for solo violin.

This group is open to all adult musicians up to around grade 5, plus their children (sorry, no unaccompanied minors). Our next workshop will be in the Spring term when we hope to tackle Rhapsody in Blue and Dr Who!
